History

Pearl of Africa Foundation was registered in November 2003. The foundation was founded by a group of Ugandans out of a need for an association that would bring Ugandans together for personal and Uganda's development. Its membership stands at over 800 and is continuously growing. It has also created a network with different organizations through seminars, workshops and conferences.

Achievements

Pearl of Africa has over the years established partnerships and collaborations with various Dutch Organizations through seminars, workshops and conferences. It has also mobilised people, published a regular magazine and maintained a website.

 

Pearl of Africa hopes to inform its members about the Dutch government’s policies, rules and regulations. We also hope to solicit the Dutch people’s support in encouraging good governance, democracy, economic development and peace in Uganda.

- Supporting the Uganda Kobs football team 2005, 2007 and 2008

- KIT; guest speaker on Uganda for KLM and Police consultants

- Organising the Gulu Walk in Amsterdam 2006, 2007 and 2008

- Creating and moderating the Yahoo Group Forum

- Registering Pearl of Africa in Uganda as an NGO

- Launching Pearl of Africa Uganda Chapter

- Constructing a Nursery and Day Care Centre in Gulu 2008

Support

Pearl of Africa has received support from: Vluchtelingen Organisaties Nederland (VON), Steunfonds Vluchtelingen Organisatie (SVO), Kerkinactie, SMS, Oxfam-Novib, NCDO and is currently supported by Afroneth. The organization was founded in order to promote the interests of Ugandans living, working or studying in the Netherlands.

Long term goals

Pearl of Africa hopes through its activities to:

  • Provide a platform to share experiences;
  • Support and advise Ugandans on integration into Dutch society;
  • Offer Dutch society a glimpse of what Uganda has to offer in terms of tourism, trade and investment;
  • Provide information through brochures, website and magazine;
  • Provide any other service that is beneficial to Ugandans and friends of Uganda;
  • Build capacity in Uganda
  • In partnership with other organizations build institutions in Uganda
  • Promote socio-economic development in Uganda
